steady progress
Work this week has been fairly steady, finishing up our last few shots on the chapel set, making sure we’ve got everything we need before resetting for the next scene. We did get the chance to shoot some quick lightning tests in preparation for a few stormy scenes next week, which is going to be fun!
ruins & clouds
Gonna be a quick update this time! It’s been sweltering in the studio this week, New York summer is in full swing. We’re still hammering away on lovely atmospheric shots of the chapel, in various states of construction and ruination.
frame by precious frame
Production has been in full swing for a few months now! We’re in the studio every day, busy working away, getting the shots locked down one by one. It’s a whirlwind of activity, art, printing, cutting, lighting, swearing, problem solving, and animating, as we coax this film into existence frame by precious frame.
chapels & scaffolds
As mentioned in the last post, I’m starting a regular studio report, giving a quick run down at what we’ve been up to that week. Lately, we’ve been busy working on a handful of shots that show our monks labouring away at building the chapel that is so central to this story.
spreadsheets & coffee
As you all know by now, animation is a painstaking process requiring a lot of careful preparation, and unfortunately this side of preproduction isn’t very exciting. Nor does it make for interesting photos.
engineering & auspices
Hope you all had a happy new year! It’s been a while between updates, something that we’re looking to change in twentyseventeen, but rest assured we’ve been busy in these last few months.
new animator & other news!
We had a huge response to the call out in our last update, and now we get to introduce Josh Mahan, who is going to be our lead stop motion animator. He is a ridiculously talented individual, with a wealth of experience on lots of amazing projects, and we’re excited to have him aboard!
hiring additional animators
Using the extra funds from the kickstarter, we are looking to hire two additional animators to work on the film. If you’re keen and have the skills for the job, or know someone who does, get in touch!
preparing the way
It’s been an extremely busy couple of months. I had some previous work commitments that I had to catch up on, projects that had been pushed back by the kickstarter campaign, and now with those out of the way I’ve got a clean slate to focus our animation. It’s a good feeling!
this film is HAPPENING
We made it – and then some! The support for this film surpassed our wildest expectations, smashing past our initial funding target, our stretch goals, and then just kept on rolling… reaching over $70,000 in the last few minutes.
